The 24-piece collection marks Citizen’s 50 years of Eco-Drive innovation and signals a growing focus on women’s luxury watches.
Japanese watchmaker Citizen Watch has announced a new designer collaboration with fashion designer Vera Wang, unveiling Vera Wang for Citizen, a watch collection scheduled to launch globally in Spring 2027.
The partnership coincides with the 50th anniversary of Citizen’s Eco-Drive technology, which powers watches using natural or artificial light. The new collection merges Wang’s fashion-driven design language with Citizen’s watchmaking expertise developed over more than a century.
The collaboration will debut as a 24-piece watch collection spanning jewellery-inspired statement pieces and ready-to-wear designs for women and men.
Citizen expands its women’s watch strategy
The collaboration reflects Citizen’s growing focus on the women’s watch category, one of the fastest-growing segments within the global watch market.
Recent launches such as the Citizen L Rainell and Fio collections signal the company’s investment in design-forward watches tailored to a new generation of consumers seeking both fashion and performance. According to Jeffrey Cohen, President of Citizen Watch America, the collaboration with Wang was built on a shared creative process rather than a typical licensing agreement.
“Partnering with Vera Wang was a rare opportunity,” Cohen said. “This wasn’t simply a licensing relationship—we collaborated side by side. Her vision of how women wear watches today helped guide the design process.”
A fusion of fashion and horology
The Vera Wang for Citizen collection was developed through close collaboration between Wang and Citizen’s design and engineering teams. Wang was involved in multiple stages of the process, including concept development, material selection and case architecture.
The result is a collection designed to bridge watchmaking and jewelry aesthetics, combining sculptural silhouettes with contemporary finishing.
“My decision to partner with Citizen was deeply intentional,” Wang said. “With more than 100 years of watchmaking expertise, they bring a level of technical innovation and craftsmanship that’s rare in the industry.”
Eco-Drive technology at the centre of the collection
Every piece in the collection will be powered by Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive technology, which converts both natural and artificial light into energy, eliminating the need for battery replacement. Over the past five decades, Eco-Drive has become one of the most recognised innovations in light-powered watch technology, allowing Citizen to develop slimmer cases and more complex dial designs.
The technology has also enabled the brand to experiment with expressive materials, including washi paper dials, ultra-thin sapphire crystal, luminous mother-of-pearl and colour-shifting structural inks, expanding the aesthetic possibilities of contemporary watchmaking. These technical advancements allowed the design team to achieve the sculptural proportions and saturated finishesthat define the new collaboration.
A designer collaboration launching in 2027
The Vera Wang for Citizen collection will officially launch in Spring 2027, marking the first partnership between the designer and the watchmaker. The watches will be available through the brand’s website and select global retailers, offering consumers an early glimpse of the collaboration as Citizen continues to expand its presence in the fashion-driven luxury watch segment.
